Overview
More a true sequel to Ys I & II, rather than Ys III, this reverts back to the same overhead style with the familiar bump-the-enemies attack system. Ys IV takes Adol to new lands and locations, but also back to places such as Minea and Darm Tower. Ys fans will be glad to know the music is again arranged by Ryo Yonemitsu.

Ys IV has received a full fan translation and fan dub of all the in-game dialogue. The patches can be found here.

Comment
Ys I & II is a hard act to follow and Ys IV does its best to live up to the legacy. The graphics are of a higher standard, there are a lot more mini visual scenes and the music, once you get used to it, is very good - not as good as the previous games perhaps but certainly worthy. But despite all this and the longer overall quest, there's something that just doesn't gel perfectly with me. The story is somehow less interesting and the pacing and flow of the game seems less natural than Ys I & II. But don't let that put you off too much as it's still a decent ARPG, even if it fails to eclipse its predecessors.
