Overview
There are many shooters on the PC Engine, but not that many set underwater. Deep Blue puts you in control of a fish-shaped submersible of some sort, complete with cannon to blast away any nasty fishy types that get in your way. And believe me, there are a LOT of these angry denizens of the deep that would like nothing more than to take you down. As with most shooters, the occasional power-up comes your way when you shoot a particular type of fish, and these give you bigger shots, a long purple shot, full energy and so on. The large eye on your fishy vehicle shows your energy status and any collisions will deplete this pretty fast - as you only have a single life you have to be nimble to survive.

Comment
Pack In Video are not known for making great games. In fact, they're known for making pretty damn awful games, and Deep Blue is just one of the reasons why. Almost legendarily awful, why anyone would want to play this game more than once is beyond me. The graphics are bland with seemingly no variety in the forever-scrolling background, the music grinds on you after a while and the gameplay is shocking. Enemies shoot around the screen in such zig-zaggy patterns that it is almost impossible to avoid getting hit every few seconds, you can only shoot forward (no spread shot) making it very difficult to hit anything and turning the game into more like dodging practice than anything else. And as you only get one life you will get pretty annoyed and fed up with it very quickly indeed. Do yourself a favour and never play this game.
